The “Come Hell or High Water” R*n

Important: As the official “Aparcamiento del Parque de Los Cerros de Alcala” car park will be very busy on Sunday, the Hash car park will be at the back of the industrial estate which is opposite  Cementerio Jardín and  just down from the official car park. The entrance of the industrial estate is identified  by a very very tall reddish sign marked “Alcala de Henares” and FFCP.

Directions by public transport:

Get the Cercanías (C2/C7 – direction Guadalajara (this goes from Chamartín, Nuevos Ministerios, Atocha) to Alcalá de Henares). Once in Alcalá it´s a 5-10 minutes walk to Vía Complutense 51 where the bus stop to El Gurugú . On Sunday the 232 bus leaves from there at 12:25/12:30. It takes about 10 minutes to get to Cementerio Jardín . The bus stop is Cementerio Jardín, opposite is the industrial estate. The entrance of the industrial estate is identified  by a very very tall reddish sign marked “Alcala de Henares” and FFCP.

 

Driving directions (from Cuzco):

Take the A2 Hwy and exit @ Km.23 (Alcala de Henares / M300 Arganda).
At the 2nd Roundabout take the 1st exit (M300 Arganda / Loeches).
Travel on the said M300, going straight on at a whole slew of roundabouts and cross the river and immediately turn left into the industrial estate. The entrance of the industrial estate is identified  by a very very tall reddish sign marked “Alcala de Henares” and FFCP.

Directions by public transport:

Leaves: 12 noon; Arrives: 12:45 p.m.

Just get off the bus opposite Cafetería La Ronda and a car will be there for a lift to the car park.

Driving directions (from Cuzco):

Take the A3 (Valencia Hway) and exit at km 21 (Morata-Chinchón). Go to the next roundabout and take the 2nd exit, always heading for Chinchón.

After 20 kms or so just past the petrol station at the roundabout take the 2nd exit (Chinchón este).

Go through the town for just over 1 km and turn left towards Belmonte de Tajo.

Go on for approx.5 kms and at the water tank make a sharp right onto the dirt track FFCP

The “Not-The-Downhill-R*n” R*n

Due to weather and logistical issues, we’ve decided to postpone the Downhill Run that we were organising in memory of Marathon Man.

However, fear not. There is a R*n nevertheless and there might even be some downhill bits…

Directions by public transport:

There are two bus options, one from Plaza de Castilla and the other from Moncloa:

•    Bus 672 to Cerceda (through Mataelpino): Leaves Moncloa bus station (dársena 25) at 11.30

•    Bus 724 to El Boalo: Leaves Plaza Castilla bus station (dársena 27) at 11.40

In both cases ask to be dropped off on the M-617 between El Boalo and Mataelpino, at the entrance to Urbanización La Ponderosa de la Sierra.

Take Colmenar Viejo road (M-607). At km 35 keep in the left-hand lane, heading towards Navacerrada/Cerceda. Travel a further 12 km on the M607 and go straight at 4 roundabouts (signposted Navacerrada). At the 5th roundabout take the 1st exit signposted Mataelpino (M-615). Drive 3.2 km and turn right towards El Boalo (M-617). Drive 1.5 km on M-617 and at red bus stop turn left. FFCP.

You need to get off at the Convento bus stop at the start of Chinchón village. It is a short (5 min) walk to the car park, up Calle de Abapies, where you will see the castle.

Driving directions (from Cuzco):

Go north on Paseo de la Castellana towards Av. de Alberto de Alcocer. (19 seconds, 70 metres)

Take the M-30 Lateral, E-901/A-3, M-832 and M-311 towards Chinchón. (44 minutes, 49 kms)

At the roundabout, continue onto Calle de Abapies. The car park is on the right. (54 seconds, 300 metres)

Parking: Look for the castle to your right. Small car park off Calle de Abapies, also car parking spaces on side of the road.

Driving directions (from Larry´s):

Take M-30 to go into M-607.

After 26km, past Colmenar Viejo, take the road M-609 direction Soto del Real/Miraflores

1st exit in the roundabout to enter M-608

Second exit in the next 2 roundabouts direction Av. de las Lilas/M-611

Continue at M-611 into Miraflores de la Sierra village

Stay in the same street and then turn left into Calle de la Fuente del Cura, after a while take a left in the Chiringuito.

It might be tricky to find Calle Fuente del Cura, check on Google Maps / GPS to make sure you know the area.
